LMFT, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#T3454)
MA Marriage, Couple & Family Therapy
BA English, Creative Writing
I meet and consult with individuals and relationships of all kinds (couples, families, friends, etc). I especially love to work with men and new parents. I live and work from home in southeast Portland and spend Sundays working in-person at Flanders House in northeast Portland.
I chose to pursue the work of relational therapy out of a great curiosity and love for the diversity of lives and relationships in this world. Partly these emerged from my own experience learning how to navigate life and relationships as a man, in a society that has a wide variance of ideas about what that means. In my education and clinical training, personal relationships, my own therapeutic experiences, and the many therapy conversations I've been privileged to have, my work is grounded in the idea that meaningful connection is the crucial element to living the lives we want to live.
My desire to weave together writing/reading and talking with people about their lives coalesced during my experience training in narrative therapy ideas and practices with the guidance of longtime narrative practitioners Jill Freedman and Gene Combs. My undergraduate education in literature and creative writing, and my ongoing personal writing practices, deeply inform this orientation to therapeutic work.
Some of what I love in this life: My family. Swimming in lakes, rivers, and the sea. The many creatures of this world. Quiet mornings with a cup of coffee. To sit comfortably in silence with people I care about. To imagine, write, read, and reflect. Dreams and dreaming - one of the most compellingly creative aspects of being alive.
I look forward to our conversations!
